Toto Jr son Ticino to Sönke Rothenberger

A few days prior to the horrifying fire at the stables of the Rothenberger family, Sönke had bought the promising 3-year-old Ticino (Glock’s Toto Jr x Jazz). The KWPN-bred stallion was recently approved at Oldenburg and Westfalen, as a foal he was sold at the Dutch Top Foals auction in Lunteren.

“This might be the light at the end of the tunnel. I bought this stallion several days before the fire. Thank god we stabled him at Beatrice Buchwalds place at Hengststation Hoffroge so he did not have to experience what we experienced.” wrote Sönke Rothenberger on his Instagram.

Lucardo D’N Hop

Ticino was bred by Jan Hoppenbrouwers of Waalwijk out of the Jazz-daughter Penelope, where he received the name Lucardo D’N Hop. His damline produced multiple (inter)national show jumpers and dressage horses, amongst others the Small Tour-horse Dutch Discovery. A son of Tuschinski that was bred out of the full sister to Penelope.

Breeder Jan Hoppenbrouwer: “This was not the first time I sold a foal of Penelope at the auction in Lunteren and she has give multiple offspring that are succesful in the sport. Penelope is a true Jazz-mare with a lot of expression and she passed that off to Ticino. He already pulled your attention as a foal. Always moving with quality, never missing a beat. I think that suspension and elasticity is important in a dressage horse. And as you can see, despite his young age, his rider does not have to do anything. His natural ability is more than enough.” The selection committee of the Dutch Top Foals auction recognized his talent rightaway and was very happy to add the foal to the 2016 collection. “It is amazing to see this stallion going to a rider and place where he will get so many oppportunities. This is very rewarding for the horse, its damline and me as a breeder.”
